About

Neutrality and sources

Poliwog is a politically neutral civic site. It shows 2026 midterm filers, official voting links, issues, debates, and public records. It does not endorse a candidate, rank a party, or call anyone corrupt. Red and navy are the brand. They are not party colors.

Candidates

House and Senate names come from the FEC 2026 candidate master (cn26.zip): election year 2026, office H or S, candidate status C or N. The file was dated October 31, 2026 and read on October 31, 2026. It lists 4,426 filers. Status C is a statutory candidate. Status N is included because some general-election nominees are still marked N. The FEC does not publish the certified ballot. A primary candidate or a write-in can be missing or extra.

Each filer has a page with the name, party, office, and district from that file, plus a link to the FEC candidate page. Poliwog does not write biographies. A short bio appears only when the public congress-legislators file matches one current member. Otherwise the page says the bio is not yet available. Photos are kept only from an official congressional portrait or a checked public file, with the credit under the picture.

Where to vote

Every state, the District of Columbia, and the territories have a voting guide. The guide names the election office and links to registration, registration status, polling-place lookup, mail and early voting, and voter ID. Those links were checked against USA.gov and the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. The page shows the date of that check.

Poliwog does not store a separate registration deadline, early-voting date, or mail-ballot deadline. Those dates stay on the official page. The federal general election day is computed as the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Source: USA.gov — Election Day.

A ZIP code or street address on the Vote page can show polling places, early-vote sites, and drop boxes when Google has an election on file. A ZIP alone is not an assigned polling place. Live Civic results are not copied into the state guide as a calendar.

Maps

State and district coordinates are area centroids from the Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundary (1:20,000,000), for states and 119th Congress districts. They are not population centers. American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are not in that state file, so those pages do not show a coordinate. Some states redrew districts after the 119th Congress map.

Districts

A ZIP maps to a U.S. House district with the U.S. Census Bureau 119th Congress district / 2020 ZCTA relationship file. Overlaps under 5 percent of the ZIP’s land area are left out. Some states redrew districts after that 119th Congress map. The candidate pages follow the district number on the FEC filing, not a guessed new map.
